About Us NRI Certificate

Indian Passport holders resident in the Consular jurisdiction of this Consulate can apply for issuance of a NRI (Non Resident Indian) Certificate.

 
Step 1- Please arrange the following documents:

  • Miscellaneous Services Form – Download and duly fill up the Miscellaneous application form (click here)
  • One color photo as per below specification:
    • Size – 2 inch x 2 inch(51 mm x 51 mm)
    • Background –Background should be plain white colour without borders.
    • Clothes – Dark colour
    • Eyes – Open
  • Original Indian passport and photocopy of pages of the Indian passport with visas/arrival/departure immigration stamps
  • Original and a copy of Immigration Documents (PR Card, Landing Paper, Work Permit etc.) in respect of Indian passport holders. (If sending the request by mail, please send authorized copy of these documents as per latest guidelines of Global Affairs Canada. Please see https://www.international.gc.ca/gac-amc/about-a_propos/services/authentication-authentification/step-etape-1.aspx?lang=eng )
  • Copy of Proof of Address in Canada- Please enclose any one of the following documents as proof of present address [Phone bills, Bank statements are not accepted as valid address proofs.]:
    • Driving license
    • Photo ID issued by the Provincial Government
    • Utility bills (Gas, Electricity, Water or Landline Telephone Bill displaying applicant’s address / House Lease Agreement). 
  • A letter detailing the purpose of requirement for the NRI Certificate
  • If the applicant requires the NRI certificate to sponsor a person of immediate relation or a first degree relative then following documents of the said person are also required:
    • Copy of passport
    • Proof of relationship with the NRI sponsor
    • Copy of Aadhar card (if available)
    • Copy of OCI (if available)
    • Indian Educational Institute's requirement for NRI certificate for the course in which the candidate seeks admission
  • Fee- please refer to https://www.cgitoronto.gov.in/page/fee/ . The fee is payable by debit card or demand draft issued in favor of "Consulate General of India, Toronto"

Step 2- Submission of application:

  • The application can be submitted at the Consulate between 0900-1230 hrs on any working day (Mon-Fri, excluding gazetted holidays).
  • Applicants living outside GTA area can send the application by post to the Consulate at "Consulate General of India, Toronto Suite 700, 365 Bloor Street East, Toronto, M4W 3L4". Applicants are required to send a pre-paid return envelope with the application to allow the Consulate to send back the attested application.
