About Us Transportation of Ashes to India

The Consulate provides the service of issuance of a No Objection Certificate to allow for transportation of ashes of a deceased person to India.

 

Step 1- Arrange the following documents:

  • Duly filled up Registration of Death Form (for Indian passport holders only)
  • Duly filled proforma for No Objection Certificate to allow for transportation of ashes of a deceased person to India
  • Death Certificate issued by the Ministry of Government services in original and copy (Form 16 is required mandatorily for Ontario residents)
  • Cremation certificate and a photocopy.
  • Certificate of packing indicating name, age, date, time and cause of death, contents of package.
  • Original Passport of the deceased and copy.
  • Name, address and passport particulars of the person taking the ashes and a copy of their passport.
  • Fee- please refer to https://www.cgitoronto.gov.in/page/fee/ . The fee is payable by debit card or demand draft issued in favor of "Consulate General of India, Toronto"

 

Step 2- Submission of application:

  • The application can be submitted at the Consulate between 0900-1230 hrs on any working day (Mon-Fri, excluding gazetted holidays).
  • Applicants living outside GTA area can send the application by post to the Consulate at "Consulate General of India, Toronto Suite 700, 365 Bloor Street East, Toronto, M4W 3L4". Applicants are required to send a pre-paid return envelope with the application to allow the Consulate to send back the attested application.
 
NOTE:
 
After receipt of the No Objection Certificate for transportation of ashes of a deceased person to India, the applicant may visit the e-clearance portal of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at https://ecare.mohfw.gov.in/ for necessary clearances.
